Borat
Did anyone see the new Borat movie? It's called Borat!: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. I hear he speaks Hebrew and Yiddish in the movie. He makes fun of Jews. But I hear he is also Jewish, so he gets permission to do that. LOL.
Anyone seen it? Planning to see it? Is it worth the $10?
Can we have some reviews on it?

I've never even heard of the movie. But I do think you make a good and cute point that being jewish gives you the right to make fun of jewish people. I have the cutest song called the boro park anthem sung by a jew. I should send it to you sometimes.

I saw it. It's funny, but not hysterically so. Yes, there are lots of anti-semitic moments in the film, but it is all done in jest. Also, the film is 1:24 long, much shorter than most movies.

here's a staetment by the ADL on this movie:
Statement On The Comedy Of Sacha Baron Cohen, A.K.A. "Borat"
New York, NY, September 28, 2006 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today issued the following statement on the upcoming theatrical release of Sacha Baron Cohen's new film, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" starring his farcical anti-Semitic character "Borat" in the lead role:
The premiere of Sacha Baron Cohen's new film featuring his farcical character "Borat" has raised anew concerns among some in the Jewish community about the character's notoriously boastful expressions of anti-Semitism and stereotyping of others.
When approaching this film, one has to understand that there is absolutely no intent on the part of the filmmakers to offend, and no malevolence on the part of Sacha Baron Cohen, who is himself proudly Jewish. We hope that everyone who chooses to see the film understands Mr. Cohen's comedic technique, which is to use humor to unmask the absurd and irrational side of anti-Semitism and other phobias born of ignorance and fear.
We are concerned, however, that one serious pitfall is that the audience may not always be sophisticated enough to get the joke, and that some may even find it reinforcing their bigotry.
While Mr. Cohen's brand of humor may be tasteless and even offensive to some, we understand that the intent is to dash stereotypes, not to perpetuate them. It is our hope that everyone in the audience will come away with an understanding that some types of comedy that work well on screen do not necessarily translate well in the real world -- especially when attempted on others through retelling or mimicry.
It is unfortunate that Mr. Cohen chose to make jokes at the expense of Kazakhstan. It would have been better to have used a mythological country, rather than focus on a specific nation.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Thanks Nuch for the statement. That cleared things up. I will go see it although my husband's friend didn't like it but I think I will since I'm more open-minded and will not get offended...
Thanks

A few points here.
A. If there were ever such a movie making fun of Muslims there would be world war 3, but Jews know how to take a joke.
B. He is Jewish, I read a article that said he keeps kosher and shabbos, yeah right as if that's true but I can imagine him keeping it in a traditional way.
C He is hilarious (if you don't mind crude and vulgar humor) the only problem is most of his stuff is repetitive and it gets kind of old when everyone is repeating the same lines over and over.
These days its hard to go a day without hearing someone utter a Borat line.

Y'know YY, I agree with you. So many of these chasidishe women sound like broken records with their venting and anger. Am I the only one happy? I am frum, chasidish but I still have myself a good time on the side. Most of these women think that because they're openminded and know what's out there they have to be unhappy with their life. They think everyone out there has it so good. I am also extremely openminded. But it doesn't mean I want to be different or that I'm faking the religion or the levish. There are many things I can't stand about the rules or people but I don't take anything personally. They're so bitter and it's pretty disgusting. I've said it previously and I'll say it again: I don't judge anyone. If they had a difficult childhood or they felt they were being fed B.S. with the frumkeiten- I understand your anger. But live for the future. Don't go through life hating the past! or even the present! Make some changes for yourself and be happy. Anyway, YY , totally off topic on Borat- lol- but I'm just lazy to put up a new post.

Heimish- Just becuase Borat maybe jewish, gives him no excuse to make fun of them. Especially since the movie will be watched by Non jews who will believe any Jew joke there is. Big Chillul Hashem. He is hilarious though in a very vulgur, disgusting and immoral way. Every time I see a small video of him via e-mail, I get a sinking feeling in my stomach. My advice- Dont watch it.

FYI: There were some funny scenes in the movie but you forget most of them after watching this one particular nasty scene (I heard from a certain female that she felt like throwing up after watching that scene and couldnt figure out why people were laughing)
All in all, I gotta say that as funny or original as borat might be, the movie was 75% hype and a major letdown, its no wonder people are barely talking about him now that the movie is out for a while.
