Long or Short

I'd like to thank IAGN (It's all good now) for giving me the push to continue posting. Hopefully I'll update more often.

I never understood this. Seriously, most of the chumras, mishigasim, minhagim I can sort of understand. (most of the time). The town I live in is the home to many, including:
The yunchy lady
The yunchy lady that thinks she's fancy
The yunchy lady that knows she's yunchy
The fancy lady that is yunchy
The fancy lady that shops at Daffy's
The narrowminded that thinks she's open-minded
And The yunchy lady
Plus many more interesting types of people, you should all visit sometime!

One thing they will all (OK most) agree on is that a long skirt is modern. That is something I don't understand. If I wear a long skirt I get stared at and called modern. But why is it that when most of the above mentioned women wear a short skirt it is acceptable? Let's put
mid-length at a side for now because it's simply unflattering on everyone. When given a choice between long or short most people (in this town) would never wear a long skirt. If you're so 'frum' and concerned about tznius why can't the long skirt become the in thing?

Anyway, what has me so worked up is that I wore this 'moderena' skirt this week and a family member turned up her nose and said its modern and she wouldn't go out of the house like that. I didn't give a hoot and just ignored her, but why don't they get it? I never either got it actually and was wondering if anyone out there can shed some light on this topic.

Oh, finally. We must thank IA GN!

Don't take it to heart. The rules in your/my town make no sense. Tryig to understand it will not convince anyone, unfortunately...

now seriously, all humor put aside, I think the word "hypocrates" was created solely for them.
doesnt a short skirt bare much more leg then a long one?? isnt it much more attractive by all means? I mean seriously. no matter how much I thought about it...I still havent come up with a legitimate answer can anyone?

lvnsm27- I guess it is interesting for anyone that doesn't live here. I'm sure it sounds weird that it's even an issue.

shy- I guess it is really all about that. If you're different then you'll stick out of the crowd, the majority. But it would still make more sense it it were the other way around. Great point!

Shpitzle- Won't convince anyone but it still leaves me exremely frustrated!

1beatiful-stranger- a langeh shesl?? I know! My grandmother made my mother hem one of my skirts a while back. OK, Secretly I think a long skirt makes a statment and it looks very good most of the time. (depending on the style) But, tzniuswise it is definately better than many skirts I've seen on the streets lately.

    Y.Y.- I agree ; )

BTW, This family member I mentioned walks the streets all the time on Shabbos with a long robe. So what's the difference? I guess if it's a one-piece it's acceptable and a skirt and top is not. Does that make sense to anyone?

You are sooo welcome. Sheesh!! The power I wield is a bit frightening as it places a burden on me I'm not sure I want to bear. Ok, ok. I'm getting off my high horse now.
As for your question re: long skirts, I don't have an answer so I'll just say, "ADD THIS TO THE LIST!!!"
