No Time

I've been unbelievably busy the past few weeks. I have about 30 blogs in my favorites that I used to visit every single day. I see now that I have so much catching up and reading to do. I haven't had a chance to visit so many of my favorite blogs. And I haven't had a chance to update my blog.
Well, I'll be leaving for a week or so and will not post. You will hear from me on or about the 25th. Hope to tell you how much fun I had without giving too much details. So, good bye. And I do think about many of you even if I'm not posting or commenting.

What will happen to all the memories?

Today I saw footage that just recently surfaced about what was going on during WWII. The clip showed concentration camps, gas chamber, ghettos and destruction that until now I had only seen in still pictures. It is not for the weak of heart or the queasy.

NOTE: approximately 50 min. long

It got me thinking....
All war survivors are at least 65 now. Our generation still has someone to tell us stories, to not let us forget? What will be in 20 years from now? Who will keep the memory alive of those lost then? Of those that suffered and survived? What will remind us of the terror that happened there?

MBD and Avraham Freid sang this beautiful song at the Ohel concert years ago. I've always loved it and was reminded of it today. I typed up the lyrics as best as I could remember; please correct me if it's wrong.

I’m a very tired old and worn out man
And my eyes have long been blind
Most things that people say to me
Just seem to slip my mind

Oh but the suffering and painful times
That were in years long gone
Are still as clear upon my memory
As the numbers on my arm

Chorus:

What will become of all the memories?
Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze?
Who will stand before the world that wishes to deny
How will they believe in someone who never heard the cries?

When I hold my grandson close to me
And his fingers trace the patterns of my tears
He asks me “Zeide, tell me why do you cry,
what is it that you fear?”

And I tell him “There once was another child
who smelled this sweet and felt this warm
but he was taken from before my eyes
and only I remain to mourn”.

Chorus:

What will become of all the memories?
Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze?
Who will stand before the world that wishes to deny
How will they believe in someone who never heard the cries?

There is little I can say or do to make things change
Time has a way of passing by so fast
Like a fleeting shadow, no one will recall
The faces of the past

What will become of all the memories?

Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze?
Who will stand before the world not knowing what to say
When the very last survivor fades away, fades away

What will become of all the memories?

Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze?
But one thought gives me comfort; it’s all that I have left
Oh, I know that god in heaven won’t forget!

This song is so beautiful. If you don't know the tune go get the Ohel Concert from about 10 years ago.
I really didn't want to post such a depressing topic, but it shook me up too much.

Holiday Season

So, are you guys out there working today? If you're not, what are you doing on your day off? Did anyone receive a bonus from their boss this holiday season? If you are a boss did you make your employees work today? If you did, why? You know it will be dead! Are you like my husband's boss that says " Why shouldn't you come in since I'm paying you?"

Let's discuss!

Books

My mother and I both love to read. She always gives me books. We basically like the same genre. So last week she gave me this book by J.A. Jance. The character in the book writes a blog and throughout the story blogging and the comments are involved. I thought her giving me that book was really interesting and a big coincidence since my mother doesn't know about my blog or blogs in general. Anyway, that was pretty weird.

Long or Short

I'd like to thank IAGN (It's all good now) for giving me the push to continue posting. Hopefully I'll update more often.

I never understood this. Seriously, most of the chumras, mishigasim, minhagim I can sort of understand. (most of the time). The town I live in is the home to many, including:
The yunchy lady
The yunchy lady that thinks she's fancy
The yunchy lady that knows she's yunchy
The fancy lady that is yunchy
The fancy lady that shops at Daffy's
The narrowminded that thinks she's open-minded
And The yunchy lady
Plus many more interesting types of people, you should all visit sometime!

One thing they will all (OK most) agree on is that a long skirt is modern. That is something I don't understand. If I wear a long skirt I get stared at and called modern. But why is it that when most of the above mentioned women wear a short skirt it is acceptable? Let's put
mid-length at a side for now because it's simply unflattering on everyone. When given a choice between long or short most people (in this town) would never wear a long skirt. If you're so 'frum' and concerned about tznius why can't the long skirt become the in thing?

Anyway, what has me so worked up is that I wore this 'moderena' skirt this week and a family member turned up her nose and said its modern and she wouldn't go out of the house like that. I didn't give a hoot and just ignored her, but why don't they get it? I never either got it actually and was wondering if anyone out there can shed some light on this topic.

Dial-up Internet

A family member of mine has AOL Dial-up internet. I mean, is she one of the 14 people that still have that? It's almost 2007. If not now, WHEN? It is soooo slow, I don't have to tell you guys. You probably had that at one point or another about 7 years ago when you first started using the internet. Anyway, I just found this list of things to do while you wait for it to connect

Your taxes.
Complete your BA degree.
Watch your hair grow.
Finally clean your keyboard.
Count the tiles on the ceiling 200 times.
Think about commercials you saw during the Super Bowl.
Scribble "I HAVE NO LIFE" on a notepad.
Read War and Peace, and write a book report on it.
Contemplate the meaning of a General Protection Fault.
Watch your AOL stocks decrease in value.
Become mezmerized by your screen saver.
Organize your desk.
Spend "Quality Time" with your hard drive.
Plan secret mission involving AOL headquarters and several rolls of toilet paper.
Try to remember the words to the pledge of allegiance.
Listen to the radio.
Contemplate the meaning of the word "unlimited".
Clip your toenails.

Enjoy while you wait.

Borat

Did anyone see the new Borat movie? It's called Borat!: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. I hear he speaks Hebrew and Yiddish in the movie. He makes fun of Jews. But I hear he is also Jewish, so he gets permission to do that. LOL.

Anyone seen it? Planning to see it? Is it worth the $10?

Can we have some reviews on it?
